Instructions
Preheat the oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Mix the casserole base
In a large bowl, combine the thawed hash brown chunks, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and 1/2 cup of the melted butter. Mix thoroughly.
Assemble the casserole
Spread the mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch baking dish.
Add the corn flake topping
In a separate bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup melted butter with the crushed corn flakes. Sprinkle the corn flake mixture evenly over the top of the hash brown mixture.
Bake covered
Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
Finish uncovered
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 40 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
